HOEOCA Member Vic Stuthridge at 2nd Meridian Training is taking names for these 22-week courses:
- RYA Day Skipper and Watch Leader Theory Course starts on Monday16 September 2024, 7-9pm
- RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Theory Course starts on Tuesday 17 September 2024, 7-9pm
Both courses are held at the Heart of England School, Gypsy Lane, Balsall Common, Coventry CV7 7FW.

What do the courses cover?
The RYA Day Skipper and Watch Leader syllabus includes seamanship, coastal navigation and pilotage, chart work, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, tides, weather forecasting and meteorology and collision regulations. No previous knowledge required, but in some form of sailing or boating does help.
The RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster syllabus includes position fixing, course shaping and plotting, tidal knowledge, use of almanacs and admiralty publications, electronic position finding equipment, interpreting forecasts, understanding weather systems and weather predictions using a barometer. Normal entry requirement is to have completed the Day Skipper Shorebased Course in recent years otherwsise it may be tricky to keep up.
